FSAR Update July, 11

Active FSAR team members:

As you know, so far, it has been a slow summer for rescue calls. Past experience tells us that this situation can quickly change.

In the meantime, keep yourself in good physical condition by hiking and/or working out. Keep your cell phone with you at all times and keep your ready pack stocked for a summer rescue call. Before leaving home on a rescue call, have you:

  •        Replied to the text message notification only if you are able to respond?

  •       Checked and prepared for the weather for the next 48 hours?

  •          Are prepared to spend the night in the backcountry if necessary?

  •        Packed enough food and water for the next 24 hours in the back country? Depending on the nature of the call, many rescuers will eat and drink while driving to a call to ‘load up’ in preparation for the hike in and carry-out.

  •       Are you able to stop in at the KFD to grab team gear?

  •      Car pooling with other FSAR members to a (distant) call, not only saves fuel and $ but can help you prepare mentally before arriving at the scene and help process the call after the mission.

Upcoming training:
